Supporting Wildlife and Biodiversity
We’ve planted more than two miles of hawthorn hedging, which is great for wildlife, while also providing a stock-proof barrier and valuable shelter from sun and rain for the horses. Our planting plans have always been designed with wildlife in mind, and as a result we’re seeing not just an increase in numbers but a wider range of species on site.
So far, we’ve planted over 150 trees of mixed native species, with more to come. Each addition strengthening our ecosystem and encouraging more insects, birds (including birds of prey), and small mammals to make their home here.
Energy and Resource Efficiency
Our sustainability plan also looks to the future. We’re working towards introducing solar energy and groundwater sourcing, allowing us to reduce reliance on traditional utilities while making better use of natural resources already available on site.
Small, consistent changes across the yard, from recycling systems to responsible waste management, all contribute to reducing our environmental footprint.
In fact, the entire Lavant Equestrian site produces just one bag of rubbish per week, a reflection of our careful resource use and our commitment to reuse and recycling wherever possible. Not many businesses could say the same.
