One of the greatest benefits of horse riding for children is the improved mental health that it brings. Through regular riding lessons, children are able to discover and develop patience, understanding and empathy for animals and other people. When at the horse riding stables or an equestrian centre, children learn the importance of forming strong bonds with their horses, understanding how to be kind to them and showing resilience even when things don’t go as planned. At Lavant Equestrian, we specialise in pony riding lessons for children aged four and up. We offer Woodland Walks for those under 4 years of age. Our experienced team will work with your child to help them improve their confidence and mental wellbeing while taking part in this activity.

Horse riding also helps to strengthen and tone muscles, whilst improving suppleness and coordination. At Lavant Equestrian we provide a safe, secure and fun environment for children to learn this life skill. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff are here to support your child every step of the way as they progress in their horse riding journey. With regular practice, your child will soon be able to take on more challenging activities, improving their skills and technique through our level system.
Patience, empathy and courage
It is important for children to learn patience, empathy, and courage. Patience is key in horse riding, you need to be patient with yourself and your horse, understanding that you are learning new skills and they are getting to know you. Through this, the children also learn empathy – understanding the needs of the horse and being gentle with them. Courage is also a crucial part of horse riding, it takes bravery to get on a horse and trust that they will do as asked. Ours are well trained so the children can achieve their goals confidently. To reward their hard work and dedication, our members get hat silks for their helmets free of charge, as well as special pompoms as they move up the levels. They also are rewarded with a certificate and rosette for each level they move up.
